Why we ask

Why we ask whether standing makes it worse

Do your symptoms get worse after standing or sitting for long periods?

Of all the questions in the check, this one carries the most weight per word. Faulty veins fail against gravity: standing or sitting still lets blood pool below failed valves, pressure builds through the day, and lying flat lets it drain. So symptoms that track upright time — rather than movement, meals, cycles or stress — point specifically at the venous system.

It's also the pattern most often missed in ordinary appointments, because scans happen lying down — when veins look their best — and because "worse at the end of the day" sounds like ordinary tiredness unless someone connects it to position.

If you answered yes: you've given the single strongest clue that your symptoms deserve a vein-aware look, whether they live in your pelvis (the PeVD pattern) or your legs (venous insufficiency).

If you answered no: vein disease isn't excluded — but other explanations rise, and the rest of your answers matter more for sorting them.
